Xiaoyuan Chen, Academic Leader

Dr. Xiaoyuan (Shawn) Chen received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Idaho (1999). After two postdocs, at Syracuse University and Washington University in St. Louis, he moved to the University of Southern California as an Assistant Professor in 2002, and to Stanford University in 2004. In 2009, he joined the NIH as a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Imaging and Nanomedicine (LOMIN) at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). His current research interests include development of molecular imaging toolbox for better understanding of biology, early diagnosis of disease, monitoring therapy response, and guiding drug discovery/development. His lab puts special emphasis on high-sensitivity nanosensors for biomarker detection and theranostic nanomedicine for imaging, gene and drug delivery, and monitoring of treatment. Dr. Chen has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers (H-index = 95, total citations > 37,000 based on Google Scholar) and numerous books and book chapters. He is the founding editor of journal “Theranostics” (2016 IF = 8.854). He is also the Past President of Chinese-American Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (CASNMMI) and President-Elect of the Radiopharmaceutical Science Council (RPSC), Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), and President of the Society of Nanomedicine and Nanobiotechnology...View more

Xianzhong  Zhang, Deputy Director

Dr. Xianzhong Zhang received his PhD in Chemistry from Beijing Normal University in 2002, and did his postdoctoral research at the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford University. After that he was promoted as an associate professor in 2006 at college of chemistry of BNU. In 2012, he moved to Xiamen University as a distinguished Professor and deputy director of the Center for Molecular Imaging and Translational Medicine (CMITM). His current research interests are focused on the radiochemistry, radiopharmaceuticals, multimodality molecular imaging probes and nuclear medicine imaging. His lab puts special emphasis on radiolabeled probes for PET and SPECT imaging, and development of molecular imaging toolbox for translational study. In addition, we are collaborating with a number of research groups both within XMU and at other universities, where imaging can serve as an invaluable tool to answer the specific research questions posed.

Dr. Zhang has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and numerous conference abstracts. Up to now, he has 45 invention patents been granted in China. He is the member of ADVISORY BOARD of Journal of Labelled Compounds and Radiopharmaceuticals (SCI). He is also an Associate Editorial Board Member of the American Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (AJNMMI)......View more
